In 2018, a group of parents launched a petition to get Nintendo to put a competitive mode on the Wii U console.
Nintendo has yet to announce an official plan to make a competitive Wii U game.
But parents who signed the petition were told Nintendo was planning to make the game competitive.
The petition was met with a slew of backlash, with many parents who wanted the game to be competitive also questioning the fairness of the petition.
The Nintendo team has said the team has not made a final decision on whether the game will be competitive, but has been listening to community feedback.
“It’s something we’re actively considering,” the company wrote in an email to Polygon.
“We’ll share more details on that when they’re ready.”
