The fifth and final season of Game of Thrones hits Australian television screens on Wednesday with the latest episode premiering at 7.30pm on ABC, followed by 7.15pm on Seven.
In a preview of the show, showrunner Daniel Handler said the fifth and last season will feature “new characters and a lot more of the conflict”.
“You can’t really go into the show without thinking of this new story, so that is what we are trying to do,” he said.
“There will be a lot of new characters coming in and there will be some major changes, but there is a lot to do in the season.”
The show has not had a new series since 2013.
Season five was filmed in Ireland.
It was also revealed that the final three episodes will be available on demand in the United States and the UK on the same day as Australia’s broadcast, with a second season expected to be released later in the year.
A second season is expected to include episodes of season six, which was filmed last year and is set for release later this year.
It is expected that the show will return to the world of Westeros with new characters, including Tyrion, Daenerys and the dragons.
“I think it’s going to be a new show with a new dynamic,” Handler said.
